Two NYPD officers commit suicide in 24-hours



Two members of the New York Police Department died by suicide within the course of 24 hours, Commissioner James O'Neill said on Thursday.  

In a note to members of the department, he encouraged individuals to seek help if needed, saying the NYPD is the largest police department in the United States, with approximately 36,000 officers and 19,000 civilian employees.

The former Real Madrid midfielder issued a statement regarding what guests should bring to his wedding as a gift.

Taking to his social media accounts, Ozil issued a statement in which he called for guests to join him and Gulse in donating money for those in need.

Justice Sikiru Oyinloye of Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, on Thursday June 6, 2019, convicted two Internet fraudsters, Johnson Okuselu, 23 and Saheed Olanrewaju, 25, to one year imprisonment without an option of fine for alleged internet scam.
During the trial, an investigator of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Olamide Sadiq told the court that on April 28, based on reliable information concerning the suspicious activities of defendant about internet fraud, the operatives arrested the defendants at Ilorin International Airport.

Eden Hazard wages: Real Madrid agree to double star's Chelsea salary from £200,000 to £400,000 per week.




Real Madrid has reportedly agreed to double Eden Hazard's Chelsea salary' to a staggering £400,000 per week when he finalises his £130million move.

According to the Evening Standard, Madrid have agreed on terms with Hazard to double his current wages from £200,000 to £400,000 per week.

His imminent big-money transfer to the Bernabeu is expected to be announced within the next 24 hours after an agreement was reached this week between the two clubs, with Madrid agreeing to pay an initial £88m, which will still rise to £130m dependent on various bonuses and incentives for the former Lille player.

The president of the Confederation of African Football, Ahmad Ahmad was arrested today at the Berri Hotel in Paris, France.  

He was said to be in France to attend the FIFA Congress. Jeune Afrique made the announcement and specified that Ahmad will be heard by the services of the Central Office of the fight against corruption and financial and fiscal offenses (Oclif).

57-year old man who has worked in the mortuary for 32-years says he loves dead bodies because they are humble



A 57-year-old Ugandan man, Basil Enatu who has worked on dead bodies as a mortuary attendant for the past 32 years is one of those few men who don’t see anything wrong with working at the mortuary, and would choose it over any other job.

The father of 10 boys and two girls has been reportedly working at the Soroti Regional Referral Hospital in Uganda for not less than 32 years, and has narrated the challenges of his work and his motivation for doing it for over three decades.

A man in India was rushed into surgery after doctors discovered practically a whole utensil drawer’s worth of items in his stomach — and a knife, which was beginning to puncture his insides

Karan Sen, 35, had swallowed everything from two screwdrivers and two toothbrushes to eight spoons and a kitchen knife, the Hindustan Times reports

Sen is believed to have a psychiatric disorder which compels a person to eat non-edible items, according to the Daily Mail. The disorder, Pica, more commonly involves ingesting things like hair, dirt, and paint chips, though doctors didn’t say whether the man had been officially diagnosed. 

Wife of ex-Premier League football star is arrested for public indecency over 'sex with married police chief'



The wife of an Ex-Premier League football star has been arrested over claims she had sex in a park and ride car park with a married police superintendent.

41-year-old Claire Makel was arrested over the allegations she was involved in a 'park and ride' romp with father-of-one Gareth Blair, 48, on the 21st of May, 2019.
The mother-of-two, who lives in Lauder in the Scottish borders is married to former Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers, Hearts and Livingstone footballer Lee Makel, who is currently a coach for Hibernian.

Former UEFA President Lennart Johansson dies aged 89



Lennart Johansson, a Swede who presided over European soccer for 17 years as its Champions League turned into a global commercial juggernaut, has died after a short illness aged 89, Sweden’s Football Association said on Wednesday. 

Johansson, president of European football association UEFA from 1990 to 2007, was a driving force behind the formation of the Champions League, giving the continent’s championship a new identity and a huge revenue stream for big clubs.

“Swedish football is in mourning,” the Swedish FA said in a statement. UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said Johansson would be remembered as the architect of the Champions League.

Police nab 60 bandits, two suspected car thieves in Bauchi



No fewer than 60 bandits popularly called ‘Sara Suka’ were apprehended within the Bauchi metropolis, the Bauchi Police Command has said.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Kamal Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in the state on Wednesday.
According to him, the bandits were arrested following intelligence report which led to the raid of criminal hotspots in the metropolis.

Cristiano Ronaldo rape lawsuit 'dropped' by Las Vegas accuser




The rape lawsuit filed against football star Cristiano Ronaldo in the United States has been quietly dropped by the accuser.

According to Bloomberg, a notice of voluntary dismissal was reportedly filed in May in a Nevada State Courtin Las Vegas, but the reasons for it are not clear at this time as the filing does not say whether a settlement was reached with the Portuguese superstar regarding the rape case.

Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne on Wednesday said Maurizio Sarri would be ‘betraying’ his former club should he agree to coach rivals Juventus.
Chelsea manager Sarri has been strongly linked with the Juventus job left vacant after Massimiliano Allegri’s departure.

Gianni Infantino re-elected for a second term as FIFA president



Gianni Infantino was re-elected Wednesday June 5th by acclamation for a second term as FIFA president at the Congress of world football’s governing body in Paris.  

The 49 year-old, who took charge of FIFA in February 2016 after the departure of the disgraced Sepp Blatter, stood unopposed for a new four-year term which will run until 2023.

Earlier, Infantino had insisted that FIFA had been transformed into an organisation “synonymous with credibility” as he addressed representatives of the 211 member federations, before the Women’s World Cup begins in the French capital on Friday.

97-year-old WWII veteran parachutes to mark D-Day anniversary



A US veteran who was parachuted into France during D-Day in 1944 defied his age on Wednesday as he recreated his courageous feat of 75 years ago as part of ceremonies to mark the famous landings.
“It feels great,” 97-year-old Tom Rice said after landing to applause in a field near the French village of Carentan where he flashed the V sign. “I want to go back up and do it again!”

Tracy Morgan gets in an accident 15-minutes after buying a $2 Million Bugatti



American actor,  Tracy Morgan picked up a $2 million Bugatti sports car on Tuesday and then immediately got into a minor car crash on the streets of New York City.
According to a NYPD spokesperson, the department received a call around 1:20 p.m. about a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of 42nd Street and Tenth Avenue in Manhattan.
"When officers got to the scene, they found two vehicles that were involved in a very minor traffic accident where two cars were basically side by side, and as the light turned green the cars touched. They rubbed slightly" the NYPD spokesperson said. 

Nechama Rivlin, Israel’s first lady, dies at 73





Israel’s first lady, Nechama Rivlin, 73, has died. She died  at the Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva on Tuesday June 4th after a long battle with a respiratory disease.

Three months ago, Rivlin underwent a lung transplant. Rivlin suffered from pulmonary fibrosis and required the constant use of a portable oxygen tank, which was attached to her even during official ceremonies she attended with her husband.

At the time David was first seen kissing Haper, trolls tore into him, including Piers Morgan who called him "weird". But David hit back a the trolls and said he is usually "affectionate" with all his kids and kisses them all.

Channel Island Seizes Another £211m Abacha’s Loot



The Channels Island government has seized money to the value of £211,000,000 in a Jersey bank account that allegedly belonged to former military dictator, General Sani Abacha.

According to a report on MetroNews, Abacha laundered the money through the US into the Channel Islands  in Europe. The money was put in accounts held in Jersey by Doraville Properties Corporation, a British Virgin Islands company.

The money is now being held by the government until authorities in Jersey, the US and Nigeria come to an agreement on how it should be distributed.

Ebola cases in DR Congo break 2,000 mark



DR Congo's health ministry said late Monday that it had recorded more than 2,000 cases of Ebola, two-thirds of which had been fatal, since the disease broke out in the country's east 10 months ago.
"Since the start of the epidemic, the total number of cases stands at 2,008, of which 1,914 have been confirmed [by lab test] while 94 are probable," it said in an update.
"In all, there have been 1,346 deaths (1,252 confirmed and 94 probable) and 539 people have recovered."
The ministry said it was important to retain the overall perspective, despite the breaching of the symbolic threshold of 2,000 cases.

Serena Williams becomes first athlete to enter Forbes’ richest self-made women list



Serena Williams has made history as the first athlete to make Forbes’ list of the World’s Richest Self-Made Women.  

According to the publication, the 23-time Grand Slam champion made the list as a result of her estimated fortune of $224m (£177m). The majority of William's fortune has been made as a result of her “brain and brand rather than her backhand”, according to Forbes, with the star investing in 34 startup businesses in the past five years alone.

Court grants bail to Philomina Chieshe, the woman who claimed snake “stole” JAMB’s N35 million



A FCT High Court on Monday admitted Philomina Chieshe, charged with alleged “missing” N35 million belonging to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to bail in the sum of N20 million.  

Chieshe, a clerical officer with JAMB, was arraigned last Friday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside Samuel Sale Umoru, a state coordinator with JAMB. Ruling in the bail application, the judge, Peter Affen declared that bail was not about setting people free but to ensure that a defendant attend trial.  

He added that the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015 holds that bail be granted in the most liberal terms. Affen also ordered the defendant to produce two sureties in like sum. He ordered that the sureties must have landed property in Abuja worth the value of the bail sum.

Lone attacker kills four in Lebanon's Tripoli



A lone gunman killed four members of the security forces in Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli overnight before blowing himself up, officials said Tuesday.
"The shooting spree resulted in the deaths of two members of the Lebanese army and two members of the internal security forces," a security official told AFP.
The army confirmed it had lost two of its men and the national news agency confirmed the overall toll of four.
