Here’s why Koffi Olomide was released on bail over dancer assault case

Veteran Congolese musician, Koffi Olomide who was deported from Kenya after kicking one of his dancers and subsequently arrested in his home and charged with assault is now a free man.

Koffi was released on bail on July 30, 2016.

One of his lawyers, Benoit Tayeye explained why he was granted bail saying, ‘Prosecutors granted bail to Koffi Olomide because he does not present a flight risk.

The defence has shown that the singer has a known residence, is a famous music star and his principal interests are here in DRC’.

Olomide was charged on Tuesday July 26, 2016 with assault and battery. Though he’s been granted bail, the criminal case has not be dropped.

In August 2012, Koffi Olomide was handed a three-month suspended prison sentence for assaulting his producer. If found guilty of kicking the dancer he will face between eight days and six months in jail.
