Nine bodies were found Wednesday near a nursing home in Iwate Prefecture in northeastern Japan, police said, after a powerful typhoon battered the region the previous day.
The police said the bodies were found near the nursing home in the town of Iwaizumi. They also found the body of a woman among rubble in the city of Kuji, they said.
Typhoon Lionrock, the season's 10th typhoon, prompted municipalities in the Tohoku area to issue an evacuation advisory to a total of around 410,000 people due to fears of landslides and high waves before blowing into the Sea of Japan on Tuesday evening.
