Bastian Schweinsteiger named in Man U 2016 team list

Bastian Schweinsteiger has been included in Manchester United’s Premier League squad despite Jose Mourinho maintaining he won’t play this season.

As well as the inclusion of the German, Mourinho has also named Sadiq El-Fitouri, former Salford City player, in his squad.

Schweinsteiger has not featured in any matches under the Portuguese manager and Mourinho warned him there is no room in his preferred 23-man squad.

He said: ‘We have a decision completely made about Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera, Morgan Schneiderlin, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick.

‘We have five players for two positions. It’s very difficult that an opportunity will arrive.’

But Schweinsteiger has been named in United’s official Premier League squad list.

Clubs must submit a list of a maximum of 25 players, of which at least eight must count as ‘homegrown.’

The German admitted it was his dream to play for United again, rather than join another European club.

El-Fitouri’s inclusion in Mourinho’s squad may also have surprised a few supporters.
